Family School/Building Your Jewish Toolkit

Family School/Building Your Jewish Toolkit

Family School and Building Your Jewish Toolkit classes are held one Sunday a month, in conjunction with sessions of Koven Religious School (KRS).

All are in person only and registration is not required.

Family School usually begins at 9:30am, at the start of KRS classes. KRS parents (and often also the students) are encouraged to join Family School, both to further their Jewish education and to create community within KRS. KRS parents are invited to stay after Family School and join in Building Your Jewish Toolkit, a 1-hour class on a topic of importance. Toolkit is open to all. The topics for Family School and the Jewish Toolkit are different each month.

Family School (9:30-10:00am, Koven Religious School Parents only):
  • April 6 —Top Chef Charoset!  Together we will experiment with charoset ingredients from Jewish communities around the world, trying to create something that works for everyone.   Note that this event will use pumpkin seeds  instead of nuts.
  • May 4 — Kids and Screen Time Parents are invited to talk about screen time with our JCFS liaison, Aliza Weiner, sharing and learning best practices for this ubiquitous challenge.
Building Your Jewish Toolkit (10:15-11:00am, open to everybody) :
  • April 6 — Jewish Vocabulary: There are many many terms used in Jewish settings.  Come brush up on terms you might already have encountered and learn some new ones!
  • May 4  — Tzedakah and Tikkun Olam: What is the best way to give tzedakah (charity)?  What are ways that you can do tikkun olam (repairing the world)?  Come explore what Jewish tradition has to say on this manner and leave with some practical ideas that you can implement in your own life.
