June/July, 2026, Har Zion Herald

Dolph Schayes, Jewish NBA Hall-of-Famer.

The theme of the June/July double issue of the Herald is being Jewish in the United States of America, in near past to the present. Rabbi Glick describes his feelings when he heard the “Star Spangled Banner” sung at a Sox baseball game—his first time after becoming a naturalized American citizen. He muses about baseball and being an Anerican citizen. Temple president Joey Gartner is also thinking about sports and American Jewish identity, in his article about one of the first National Basketball Association Hall-of-Famers, and Jewish “Big Man” —Dolph Schayes. And Cantor Figa reminisces about growing up in the prominently Jewish suburb of Skokie (and his upcoming Yiddish concert).

There is information about a number of excellent adult education classes coming up this summer and during the school year. Be sure to check out Judaism on One Foot, JOOF. Each of the 18 classes in JOOF is a concise look at an important subject in Judaism. And two months at a glance, but be sure to look at the Activity Calendar to see what else is coming up!

And remember, the text in the reddish orange in the online version of the Herald is web links to further information. Check them out!
