Chesed Network Volunteer Day!
Let’s Begin Together!
Come to Har Zion on Sunday, October 18th, 10am-12:30pm for the first Chesed Volunteer Day! Come for all or part of the morning. There will be several ways to participate: an Adamah activity in the garden, a cooking opportunity in the kitchen, and a Caring Committee activity in the foyer. And because community is also about spending time together, we’ll have light snacks and coffee while we work, talk, and connect.
We are planning the following volunteer activities:
- Adamah/Green Committee: Are you interested in helping to take care of the Har Zion gardens? Bring your gardening tools and meet us in the Har Zion garden! Everyone is welcome to help tend the garden, plant seeds for their own kitchen garden, gather a bouquet of marigolds, and to share their thoughts, interests, and ideas on how we can continue to grow Adamah together. 🌻🌱
- Social Action: For the first Social Action project of the Chesed Network we will cook a meal for the 40-65 residents of Housing Forward emergency Housing Forward housing sites. If you are interested, meet in the temple kitchen.
- Caring Committee: Meet in the foyer to make watercolor cards and discuss setting a date for making new baby baskets for the Oak Park Collaboration for Early Childhood.
Migrant Ministry: Are you are interesting in continuing Har Zion’s longtime support of our local migrant and refugee communities? Come and discuss ways that we can get involved.
Looking Ahead
- Sunday, November 1: The KRS first and second graders will visit the Animal Care League to learn and to make enrichment toys for the animals. We are hoping to schedule additional trips to the league for the other KRS classes and for the congregation.
- Saturday, December 5: We will be asking for volunteers to help plan and carry out the Har Zion Congregation Hanukkah Party (Saturday evening, December 5).
The following are some of the other services that we are planning to volunteer for:
- Sarah’s Inn—Services for victims of domestic violence and their families.
- CJE SeniorLife—Helps older adults and their families live well.
- And, on April 1, 2027: Congregants will meet at the Deerfield Maot Chitim location to make Passover meal boxes.
