A Modern Jewish Opera—The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay
Come to Har Zion on Sunday afternoon, July 26, a screening of the PBS Passport recording of the Metropolotian Opera production of the opera The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. This contemporary opera, composed by Maon Bates, with libretto by Gene Scheer, is baed on Michael Chabon’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. Its story is set in the 1940s, in New York City, in Nazi-occupied Prague, and in the “technicolor realm of comic-book fantasy.” Two Jewish cartoonists—Joe Kavalier, a refugee from Nazi-occupied Prague, and his Brooklyn-born cousin Sam Clay—invent The Escapist, an anti-fascist superhero who fights the Nazis.
Enjoy Prosecco (and non-alcoholic alternatives) and snacks during the performance.
Registration to come.
