
Rembrandt and the Jews: Truth and Fiction
Art historian Leslie Blacksberg on Rembrandt’s Jews. The talk will consider the contact points between Rembrandt and Amsterdam’s Jewish community, including the artist’s use of Hebrew, his Jewish subjects, and later Jewish painters who were inspired by him.
Leslie Blacksberg holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in Northern Renaissance Art. She has taught the humanities and art history at several universities. She comes to the subject of Rembrandt and the Jews from a long-standing interest in Jewish art and the Christian representation of Jews and Judaism.
