Saturday Morning Shabbat Service with a Special Experience for Families
On Saturday mornings, Har Zion’s Shacharit service uses a variety of traditional, modern, cantorial, and Hassidic melodies. The service is usually lead by Rabbi Glick and Cantor Figa, with our executive director and Torah reader for more than 20 years, Charles Shapera, reading Torah. A member of the congregation generally chants haftarah.
Especially for Families: A One Hour Service then Lunch (except for weeks with Tot Shabbat and Junior Congregation)
The first hour of our Shabbat morning service is designed for families. We begin with an hour of prayer and song, including a children-led Shema, new melodies, and dancing around the sanctuary in procession with the Torahs. There is play area in the sanctuary for the children with games, toys, and puzzles, allowing their parents to pray.
Then at 11am, as the service continues in the sanctuary, a light lunch is served in the chapel for the families.
