Shemini Atzeret
In 5786 in the diaspora, Shemini Atzeret begins at sundown of Monday, October 13. It follows the seventh (and last day) of the harvest holiday Sukkot. In Hebrew, Shemini Atzeret means the “eighth [day] of assembly.”
On the morning of Shemini Atzeret, morning minyan is replaced by a festival service. It is one of four times a year when Yizkor, the Jewish memorial service, is recited.
