Shemini Atzeret
In the diaspora, Shemini Atzeret 5786 begins at sundown of Monday, October 13. It follows the seventh (and last day) of the harvest holiday Sukkot. In Hebrew, Shemini Atzeret means the “eighth [day] of assembly.” The morning minyan is replaced by a festival service on Shemini Atzeret, and it is one of four times a year when Yizkor, the Jewish memorial service, is recited.
