“Keys to the Palace: Many Faces of G-d” with David Klass

This summer David Klass is substituting for Rabbi Glick for his 10am Thursday class!

David Klass’ course will consist of 12 weekly classes on Thursdays, 10am, Zoom only.

Each class will have a short reading provided beforehand by David. The readings will be short passages from the following: the Torah; Maimonides, The Guide for the Perplexed; Kafka, “Before The Law” (from The Trial); Levinas, Totality and Infinity; Plato, Republic Book 7; Buber, I and Thou; Dov Baer, Tract on Ecstasy; Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching; Rilke, Duino Elegy 8; Jeanne de Salzmann, The Awakening of Thought; Wikipedia, Turning a Punctured Torus Inside Out; and specific visual artwork from Dali, Escher, and the Jain religion.

Although seemingly diverse, the selections from each of the above sources will, once thought through carefully, converge to a common theme useful to “Turning the Keys to the Palace Gates.” The Palace analogy is borrowed from Maimonides Guide, Volume 3, chapter 51 (Translated by Shlomo Pines). This will be the general map of the class.
