Israel’s Strikes Against Iran

By Adir Glick

June 13, 2025

Dear Friends,

Last night began a campaign that has been anticipated for more than two decades, since it became clear that Iran was seeking a nuclear weapon. I remember hearing from our close family friend – the Israeli author and journalist Yossi Klein Halevi – many times since my childhood that Israel would go in to stop this existential threat.

My children asked me last night, “Why did Israel attack Iran?” I explained what a nuclear bomb was, and I said just as you say the pledge of allegiance in school, in Iranian schools they are made to chant “Death to Israel.” There will no doubt be difficult moments ahead for Israel and the Diaspora. We are in touch with Jewish organizations and authorities about security for our community. We will have guards for all of our services and events this weekend.

War is always frightening and is unpredictable. Iran has been a threat to the world’s only Jewish state for a long time, especially in the past years while building a network of militias surrounding Israel. October 7th was supported by Iran. The scope of what was achieved last night is unknown although it appears to have been a feat of intelligence and military prowess. The days ahead are also unknown but it is undoubtedly the beginning of a new reality.

We pray for Israel, its defense forces, and for the people on both sides. May the Shomer Yisrael – the Guardian of Israel – watch over Israel and bless the region with peace.

Sincerely,

Rabbi Adir Glick
