In May, Rabbi Glick’s Topic is: Rav Kook

Dear Friends,

This month, as we continue to explore the great modern figures of Jewish spirituality, we will turn to Rav Abraham Kook. Rav Kook was the first chief rabbi of pre-State Palestine. He had a great love for the Jewish people, the land of Israel, and for Jerusalem. Although he was deeply embedded in the Ultra-Orthodox religious world of his time, his thinking was very open and universally minded. He saw something very special happening in the secular return to Israel and was known for his embrace of the kibbutzim movement. He brought new concepts such as the soul of Israel, evolution as the essence of Kabbalah’s vision of the universe, and believed we lived in a new age where everyone needed to immerse themselves in spirituality. He was a great poet and mystic whose soaring beautiful writing has inspired Jewish mystics ever since and is the foundation for Jewish spirituality in Israel.
