Looking Forward–High Holy Days Services and Programming at Har Zion

This page is a work in progress; a lot of the links won’t work, particularly the ones for registration.

Note: There are services and programming for children and youth on Rosh Hashanah, Kol Nidre, and Yom Kippur.  The schedule for these can be found in Services and Programming for Children During the Days of Awe.

Tickets for the Days of Awe

Har Zion members in good standing are automatically eligible for tickets for Rosh Hashanah, Kol Nidre, and Yom services. Pick yours up from the usher station when you arrive for your first High Holy Day service. Most others must purchase tickets. Ticket link to come.

Tickets are not needed for any other services, but some of the programs do require registration; links to the registration pages are (will be) below.

As with all Har Zion services, these services are livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube, and you can also sign up to join on Zoom. (Members will receive the Zoom information automatically by email, and non-members will receive it when they obtain tickets.)

Selichot

Note that Rosh Hashanah 1 is Shabbat, so the shofar is not sounded, and Tashlish is moved to Rosh Hashanah 2, Sunday, September 13.

  • Tashlich: About 2:45-3:30pm, at Thatcher Glen Pond, Thatcher Woods; entrance to parking is on Chicago Ave, just west of Thatcher and 1st Avenue; location on Google Maps.
  • Havdalah (River Forest): 7:46pm

Because Yom Kippur is early this year, and therefore sundown is later in the day, Rabbi Glick’s Q&A and the Mincha & Neilah Services will begin 45 minutes later than usual.

There are a number of services and special programs during Sukkot for adults and also preschool children, which are listed in About Sukkot.

There are two community celebrations during Sukkot that require registration: the Sukkot party for preschool children and the Sukkot community Shabbat meal in the sukkah which is held on the Friday evening during Sukkot, Salmon in the Sukkah,

      Meaningful and fun for all ages.
      • 6pm – Donuts and lemonade
      • 6:30pm – Brief service, then we celebrate the Torah!
      • Candle lighting (River Forest): 7:11pm
    • Morning Service, Sunday, October 4,10am-12:15pm; replaces minyan
