Looking Forward–High Holy Days Services and Programming at Har Zion

High Holy Days at Har ZIon for Children:

There are services, programming, and childcare for children and youth on Rosh Hashanah, Kol Nidre, and Yom Kippur.  The schedule for these can be found here: Services and Programming for Children During the Days of Awe.

Tickets for the Days of Awe Services:

Har Zion members in good standing are automatically eligible for tickets for Rosh Hashanah, Kol Nidre, and Yom Kippur services. Pick yours up from the usher station when you arrive for your first High Holy Day service. Everyone else who attends any Har Zion service during the Days of Awe must acquire tickets ahead of time: Days of Awe Tickets

Tickets are not needed for any services other than Rosh Hashanah, Kol Nidre, and the  services on Yom Kippur.

Streaming:

As with all Har Zion services, these services are livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube, and Zoom. (Members will receive the Zoom information automatically by email, and non-members will receive it by email also, when they obtain tickets.)

You will need a copy of the High Holy Days prayerbook. There are two ways to obtain a copy:

• If you are local to Har Zion, you can borrow a machzor for the holiday season from the temple; please fill out this form to make your request. Be sure to return it after the holidays.
• You can rent an online PDF copy of the Lev Shalem machzor for a minimal cost of $4 directly from the Rabbinical Assembly’s RA Bookstore; click here. Note that you must be connected to the internet to use this machzor.

Selichot

The Days of Awe

Har Zion members in good standing are automatically eligible for High Holy Day tickets. All non-members and guests of members must acquire their tickets ahead of time;  Days of Awe Tickets
Everyone will pick up their tickets are the usher’s station when they arrive for their first service, and everyone, even members, should be prepared to show ID.

Note that Rosh Hashanah 1 is Shabbat, so the shofar is not sounded, and Tashlish is moved to Rosh Hashanah 2, Sunday, September 13.

• Tashlich: About 2:30pm, at Thatcher Glen Pond, Thatcher Woods; entrance to parking is on Chicago Ave, just west of Thatcher and 1st Avenue; location on Google Maps.

Because Yom Kippur is early this year, and therefore sundown is later in the day, Rabbi Glick’s Q&A and the Mincha & Neilah Services will begin 45 minutes later than usual.

After the Days of Awe:

See the event pages linked below for details of the services and programming for these concluding holidays. Tickets are not needed for the services, but some of the programs require registration.

✡︎ Sukkot, Friday evening, September 25, though sundown Friday, October 2 • 15-21 Tishrei

There are a number of services and special programs during Sukkot for adults and also preschool children, which are listed in About Sukkot.

There are three community celebrations during Sukkot that require registration:

• Salmon in the Sukkah (Friday, September 25, service at 6pm, about 7pm, meal), the Sukkot community Shabbat meal in the sukkah which is held on the Friday evening during Sukkot
• Sukkot party for preschool children (10:30am, Sunday, September 27)
• Hot Dogs in the Hut (Wednesday, September 30, 6pm)

    Meaningful and fun for all ages.
    • 6pm – Preliminary celebration

    • We celebrate the Torah with the Maxwell Street Klezmer Quarted!
